Ghana, Burkina Faso Strengthen Transit Trade Partnership
Ghana and Burkina Faso have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen transit trade cooperation, with both countries pledging to make Ghana’s ports more efficient and competitive for landlocked Sahelian trade.
The Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, GPHA, Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, received the State Minister for Warfare and Political Defence of Burkina Faso, Major General Célestin Simporé, on Friday, 7th July 2026.
The visit was aimed at reaffirming the long-standing friendship between the two countries and exploring practical ways to enhance port efficiency, security, and competitiveness for transit cargo.
Major General Tanye-Kulono said GPHA fully supports Burkina Faso’s ambition of becoming a logistics and re-export hub for the Sahel.
He noted that the Authority is working to simplify port procedures and reduce the cost of doing business through Ghana’s ports to help Burkina Faso consolidate its position as a regional trade hub.
For his part, Major General Célestin Simporé commended Ghana for its continued support in facilitating trade for Burkina Faso despite prevailing regional security challenges.
He described the relationship between the two countries as one built on trust, mutual respect and a shared commitment to African solidarity, and expressed confidence that stronger logistics cooperation will deliver significant economic benefits for both nations.
