GFA Defers Reaction To Black Stars Budget For Chad, Mali Clashes to Stay Focused

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to shove issues surrounding the budgetary allocation to the senior national team for two World Cup qualifying games against Chad and Mali.
This, it justified, is aimed at maintaining focus for the required results in the two fixtures.
“As the custodian of Ghana football, the GFA will, in due course, provide clarifications to the issues raised. We, however, deem it prudent at this time to maintain our collective focus on the immediate national task at hand… Once the match against Mali is concluded, the GFA will make its comprehensive remarks regarding the Ministry’s statements.”
It further rallied the support of Ghanaians for the team.
“The Black Stars require the unflinching support of all Ghanaians as they prepare to navigate these important encounters. The unity and commitment of our supporters have always been the team’s greatest strength, and we urge the nation to keep this spirit alive.”
The Otto Addo-led team has two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1 pm and Mali on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 7 pm.
“Scandalous” Budget
The comment of the FA follows a publication of estimated and approved budgetary allocations for the two games by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
At a press conference, the sector Minister, Kofi Adams, revealed that the Ministry’s initial budget for the Black Stars was $1 million per game, but they later approved an increased budget of $1.3 million to cover two FIFA World Cup qualifier matches.
He also noted that winning bonuses for management members had been cancelled.
As part of the revised financial arrangement, the players will now receive a $5,000 bonus for each win, while the $10,000 bonus previously allocated for management committee members has been scrapped.
