Gyamfi Wonoo: “Go Back For Your Money If You Bought Land From Osei Tutu” — Asantehene

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed all persons who bought land at Sakora Wonoo and Gyamfi Wonoo from Osei Tutu, the destooled Otumfuo Nkosuohene Akwamuhene, to retrieve their money from him.

The declaration was made on August 17, 2026, when Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, Asante Mamponghene, appeared before the Kumasi Traditional Council over the authorisation granted to Osei Tutu regarding Gyamfi Wonoo.

After hearing that there was no elder in Gyamfi Wonoo except the Gyaasehene and Ankobeahene, both of whom are indisposed, Otumfuo directed the family head to choose an individual and present him to the Mamponghene for enstoolment as Dikro.

“I commit the process into the hands of the Mamponghene. The family head must choose someone for you to enstool. The Jamasihene was to choose someone, but due to his absence, you will take over.”

Audit of Sold Lands
His Majesty further directed Daasebre to set up a committee, including a surveyor, once a Dikro is enstooled at Gyamfi Wonoo, to define the boundaries of Sakora Wonoo and Gyamfi Wonoo.

The committee is also to audit all lands sold by Osei Tutu.

“Announce that all who bought land from Osei Tutu at Gyamfi Wonoo should appear before the committee with their documents. It did not go through due process. Osei Tutu had no right to sell land. They will then have to pay something to the Dikro to retain their lands. Anyone who bought land from Osei Tutu must go back for their money.”

Meanwhile, Otumfuo stated that all land sales in Sakora Wonoo are invalid.

“All land sales by Osei Tutu are invalid. Go for your money from him. Osei Tutu took undue authority into his hands.”

In addition, Otumfuo directed parties in the Sakora Wonoo chieftaincy dispute to exercise restraint until their case is amicably resolved.
