South Dayi MP Calls for AU Early Warning System to Tackle Xenophobic Attacks in South Africa

The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called for the establishment of an African Union early warning and response system to tackle the resurgence of xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

He warned that the violence against fellow Africans poses a serious threat to the ideals of Pan-Africanism.

Presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Dafeamekpor said the AU mechanism would help detect and address xenophobic violence before it escalates into broader conflicts.

He stressed that such a system is critical to protecting Africans living outside their home countries.

The South Dayi MP argued that Africa cannot continue to champion unity and free movement while many Africans live in fear and face insecurity in other African countries. He described the attacks in South Africa as a dangerous setback to the continent’s integration agenda.

Hon. Dafeamekpor emphasised that African leaders must act decisively to safeguard citizens and uphold the principles of unity, solidarity, and free movement that underpin the continent’s development agenda.

He noted that failure to act risks undermining the very ideals that Pan-Africanism seeks to promote.
