Otumfuo Offers Guidance for Abuontem Baapanin to Retain Her Status

The occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has offered counsel and direction to Nana Yaa Frema, Abuontem Baapanin, on steps to retain her position.
After their family was declared non-royal, the destooled Abuontemhene’s sister now risks losing her own position.
At a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on July 30, 2026, the lingering issue was raised by the Asantehene when an unrelated case involving the incumbent Abuontemhene, Nana Akomea Sakyi Tutu Ampem II, was called.
Addressing the Council in her presence, His Majesty warned that her persistent attempts to challenge the chief would guarantee her swift removal.
“No one can help you in this case. Don’t believe anyone who is pushing you against the chief. Their direction will send you out. The family head is also feigning support for you,” he said.
Instead, Otumfuo directed her to send a plea to the chief through the Kontri Division.
“Let the Kontri Division lead you to him and tell him you were absent at the time of your brother’s case and then implore him to allow you continue to reign. Use humility to retain your position,” the Asantehene said, revealing that the Abuontemhene was contemplating giving the seat to another person.
