Pooley Killing: DCOP Lydia Donkor Intends to Rubbish the Case With Her “Concocted” Narrative- Kotoko IMC

The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Asante Kotoko SC, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua has chastised the Chairperson of the Safety and Security Committee at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), DCOP Lydia Donkor over a statement she made.
The Kontomponiafere during a meeting with reps of the FA and Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) on February 11, 2025, vented his anger at the “concocted” narrative she gave in her so-called investigation intended to rubbish the case on the murder of Kotoko fan at Nsoatre on February 2 during a game.
“After we lost the game and recorded the tragic incident, we heard the stabbing didn’t take place at the stadium. I take this opportunity to say that we don’t need Madam Lydia Donkor in this case. GFA employed her.”
He is bent on advancing the issue further by forwarding the statement she made in the TV interview to the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare.
“I will forward her statement to the IGP. She was sent to undertake a task, we don’t know whether the FA is aware of this or not. She went to listen to a concocted story. Exactly what she said was what Nsoatreman said in their statements.”
“She went for a one-sided story and relayed it on TV. What drinking bar is at the bush? We all saw the footage when he lay at the entrance of the stadium while an ambulance was parked nearby.
“She claimed police officers search persons entering the stadium. When have any of you seen someone being searched while entering the stadium? She is trying to rubbish the case. I am telling you, we don’t need her in this case.”
Stabbing
Ardent Asante Kotoko fan, Frimpong Yaw Francis, popularly known as Nana Pooley, was stabbed to death following the 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman FC.
This followed a melee that marred the game at Nana Koramansah Park at Nsoatre in the Bono Region on February 2, 2025.
Statement
Over the weekend, DCOP Donkor granted an interview in which she claimed investigations suggested Pooley was not stabbed anywhere near the match venue.
“This unfortunate incident [the fan’s stabbing] didn’t happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was picked by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium,” she is quoted to have said on JoySports.
“I have to say this because there are all kinds of comments about how the police allowed someone to come into the stadium with a knife. Let me mention that the police have a strict search regime.
“At least that is something I discuss with my various commanders, and we insist on it. There’s a strict search regime. When you’re coming into the stadium, we search everybody who is entering.”
