Police Arrest 39-Year-Old Man for Murder of UCC Student

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 39-year-old suspect Michael Mensah in connection with the tragic murder of Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, a student of the University of Cape Coast.

The suspect was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team on Monday, June 15, 2026, at approximately 7:15 PM.

The arrest took place at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast following a sustained, intelligence-led operation by the specialised police unit.

Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the suspect claims to be a teacher by profession but also operates as a commercial driver.

On June 11, 2026, at about 6:48 PM, the suspect reportedly picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza, located within the University of Cape Coast (UCC) hostel enclave.

The suspect then drove the victim to Hutchland Beach in Cape Coast, which police confirmed was the exact location where she was last seen alive.

The police administration has stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder are still ongoing, and further developments will be communicated to the public as they unfold.
