Timely Release of Capitation Grant Is Key – Kofi Asare

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, has stressed that while the government’s significant increase in capitation grant allocation is commendable, the timely disbursement of funds is what truly matters.
The educationist in a Facebook post embraced a 72% increment as the highest in history since the introduction of the grant in 2005.
“The GHS 145m allocation for Capitation Grant is the highest in the history of GH basic education. It represents a 72% increase over the 2024 main budget allocation.”
He, however, believes the timeliness of the release is crucial

Capitation grants for basic schools are funds allocated for public basic schools in Ghana operating under the Ghana Education Service to help cater to the needs of the school in the absence of school fees.
According to Global Scientific Journal, it was introduced to facilitate the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of primary education for all as well as ensuring that basic education is free for all – no payment of school or tuition fees.
