Ghana Passport Office Warns Against Paying Cash, Soliciting Favours

The Ghana Passport Office has cautioned the public against paying cash to individuals and soliciting favours in the passport application process, warning that such practices amount to corruption.

In a public notice, the Passport Centre reminded applicants that all passport fee payments must be made online and that no cash should be paid to any individual.

“ASKING FOR FAVOURS IS ALSO CORRUPTION. Passport fee payment is made ONLINE. Do not pay cash to anyone,” the statement read.

According to the Centre, the official fees range from GH¢350 to GH¢2,000.

Applicants who pay GH¢350 will have their passports delivered to their address within 15 working days, while those who opt for the GH¢2,000 express service will receive their passports within 24 hours.

The Passport Office urged all Ghanaians seeking passport services to apply directly through the official portal at passport.mfa.gov.gh to avoid being defrauded by middlemen.

The reminder forms part of ongoing efforts to sanitise the passport acquisition process, reduce extortion, and ensure transparency in service delivery.
