Four KMA Personnel Injured During Asafo Demolition Exercise

Four personnel of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have sustained varying degrees of injuries following a demolition exercise at Asafo to clear illegal structures along the Subin drain.
Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi confirmed the casualties on Wednesday, saying the injured workers were attacked during the operation to remove unauthorised structures in the area.
“About four personnel were injured. The injured were taken to the police station; their statements have been taken, and they have been issued medical forms, and we will take them to the hospital for medical care,” the Mayor said.
According to him, the assembly also lost equipment in the attack.
“Some of our vehicles have been vandalised. We have lost one pickup, an excavator, but we will go back with equipment. Those that can be repaired will be repaired,” he stated.
Mayor Boadi said the demolition is targeting structures illegally sited in waterways and other areas that pose environmental risks.
He noted that during a desilting exercise in the Subin drain area, the assembly identified several illegal structures blocking access to key drainage channels.
“We are making sure that structures that are illegally placed in areas that give the environment a negative impact are cleared, especially those in waterways. You agree that the Subin drain is around that area.
“We went to desilt, and we identified many illegal structures. Our intention is to clear them. Once we are able to clear all these, we can sanitise the areas and have access to areas that we have to desilt to prevent flooding,” he explained.
He assured that the assembly will provide full medical care for the injured personnel and return to Asafo with equipment to complete the exercise.
