Over 900 Firefighters Undergo Digital Fire Compliance System Training

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has trained 983 officers drawn from its five Regional Commands on the Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS), as part of ongoing efforts to modernise fire safety regulation through technology, professionalism, and digital innovation.

The two-day capacity-building programme, held at the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS), James Town–Accra, brought together personnel from the Ashanti, Western, Eastern, Northern, and Greater Accra Regional Commands.

The training was organised under the theme: “Strengthening Fire Safety Compliance Through Technology, Professionalism and Digital Innovation.”

The initiative forms part of a series of structured trainings designed to continuously upskill and upgrade the competencies of officers in the effective use and management of the AFCAS platform.

It is aimed at ensuring sustained capacity development as the Service transitions into a more digitally driven compliance and regulatory regime.

The AFCAS system is a digital innovation designed to streamline fire safety certification processes, improve compliance monitoring, reduce administrative bottlenecks, enhance transparency, and strengthen overall service delivery.

It is expected to significantly improve regulatory efficiency while making fire safety compliance more accessible, accountable, and responsive to the public.

Importantly, the AFCAS project will be piloted in the five (5) Regional Commands that participated in the training (i.e., Ashanti, Western, Eastern, Northern, and Greater Accra) as part of the initial rollout phase before eventual nationwide implementation.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, congratulated both participants and facilitators for the successful execution of the training programme.

She commended the officers for their commitment and active participation throughout the sessions, describing the exercise as a critical milestone in the Service’s digital transformation agenda.

She further urged participants to fully apply the knowledge acquired and replicate the same by training other officers at the station level to ensure a smooth and effective rollout of the AFCAS platform across all operational units.

The CFO also encouraged them to become worthy ambassadors of AFCAS, championing its adoption and promoting its benefits within their respective Commands.

She reiterated the importance of professionalism, teamwork, and innovation in strengthening fire safety compliance and service delivery.

According to her, the success of AFCAS depends not only on technology but also on the dedication and collective responsibility of officers and stakeholders.

She further called on the general public and stakeholders to embrace the AFCAS initiative and actively collaborate with the Ghana National Fire Service in the collective effort to reduce preventable fires and fire-related incidents.

According to her, sustained compliance, public cooperation, and shared responsibility remain critical to building a safer and more resilient Ghana.

“The successful implementation of AFCAS is a strategic step toward modernising fire safety administration. We are counting on officers and the public alike to support this innovation so that together we can prevent avoidable fires and protect lives and property,” she emphasised.
