Ashanti Regional Minister Announces Flood Assessment Tour

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, has announced a flood assessment tour of selected areas across the region to evaluate flood risks and take decisive action against structures blocking waterways.
The announcement came this morning after the Minister convened an emergency meeting with key stakeholders to discuss prevention and mitigation measures following heavy rains experienced across the region.
Mr Amoakohene said he will, together with the affected Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and the Spatial Planning Department, visit areas of concern this afternoon to assess the situation firsthand.
The tour targets locations where major riverbanks and waterways are being encroached upon through unauthorised filling activities and construction of buildings within flood-prone areas.
The Minister described the encroachment as “deeply concerning,” noting that such actions pose a serious threat to lives, property, and the environment.
“Building in waterways is a danger to our communities and must stop. Let us all play our part in protecting our environment and safeguarding lives,” he stated in a Facebook post.
Following the heavy rain on Sunday evening, several areas in the region experienced flooding.
