It was initially reported that 1,350 containers had gone missing, however, following an audit, it was discovered that 2,637 containers were rather missing.
Citing the spokesperson of the Ministry, Richmond Rockson, Graphic Online reported that there were 2,583 outstanding containers at various locations.
According to him, 860 of the containers were found at Meridian Port Services, 1,237 at GPHA Terminals, 272 were evacuated by National Security personnel, 94 were located at Amaris Terminal, and 20 were retrieved at ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal.
Background
The Ministry became aware that some uncleared containers of the ECG at the port were missing in a 103-page report of a committee that investigated the stuck containers and other procurement-related matters of the Company.
The Minister while receiving the report on Tuesday, March 25 described the findings of the report as disturbing.
“The findings from the committee’s report are very disturbing, with over 1350 of the containers missing from the Tema port aside from serious procurement breaches. The law enforcement agencies will sure be tasked to hold culprits liable.”
