Teach Your Children Our Language- Otumfuo to Ghanaians in Canada

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has encouraged the Ghanaian diaspora to pass on their native dialect to their children.
In a message specially carved out for Ghanaians in Canada during the opening of the Ghana Sports Village at Sankofa Square on June 17, 2026, the Asantehene described them as Ghanaian ambassadors and encouraged them to uphold their cultural identity.
His Majesty urged them to pass on their cultural identity to their children.
“You carry the resilience, the intellect, and the warm hospitality in your daily lives. Do not lose your identity. Teach your children our language, customs and values. This village is a home away from home — a place to gather and cheer, and to remember who you are.”
His Majesty used the occasion to thank Canada for the serene environment that supports thriving communities.
His Majesty inaugurated the village ahead of the Black Stars’ opening World Cup game against Panama in Toronto.
As guest of honour, His Majesty was joined by revered Asante chiefs, government officials and other dignitaries.
Among them were Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs James Gyakye Quayson, Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana H.E. Myriam Montrat, 2024 Vice Presidential Candidate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Okaikwei Central Patrick Yaw Boamah, members of the Asante Kotoko Board and others.
Pro-Asante groups from Toronto, Montreal, Sweden, Bantama and other parts of the globe, as well as other tribal groups, also paid homage to the King.
