I Have No Intention To Destool Bantamahene- Otumfuo

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has ruled out the option of destooling the Chief of Bantama, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, following his involvement in some disputes.

It comes after it was reported to the Kumasi Traditional Council on July 14, 2025, that Baffour had submitted the Tano deity of Adanwomase to the Sumankwaahene as directed by His Majesty.

“He has performed all the needed rites and returned the deity to Sumankwaahene,” Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, Asafohene, reported.

In his remarks, Otumfuo chastised the Bantamahene for taking sides in the outstanding case.

“Baffour is very recalcitrant and that has landed him in this trouble. Why take sides when either of the two would be subject to you after resolution?”

Notwithstanding that, Otumfuo noted that he had no plans of destooling him, adding that he was well aware of how some persons had taken advantage of the situation to extort money from Baffour.

“You were told I was nurturing plans to destool you and panicked. Money was extorted from you with promises of helping you calm my anger. I am privy to all that. I have no plans of destooling you. All I want is for you to lead with integrity.”

Otumfuo cited historical antecedents for his leniency with occupants of the Bantama stool.

Meanwhile, the Asantehene set Monday to deliver his verdict on the outstanding issue.

Background
During a KTC meeting on March 13, 2025, Nana Bantamahene reported that attempts to recover a looted deity were unsuccessful.

This was after the Asantehene had given an earlier order for him to restore the deity after it was stolen from its abode by one of the factions laying claim to it at Adannwomase.

“We went to look for it in the whole community, but we could not find it. We solicited the help of the police too but couldn’t locate it,” Bantamahene said.

Nana Bantamahene was, therefore, found guilty of contempt and fined eight rams after it was discovered that he did not undertake the task.

“Before he submits his ‘dibim’ on Monday, he should bring Asare Bediako from wherever it is. It must be handed over to Sumankwaa,” Otumfuo ordered.
