Odeefuo Kyere Diabour Asante II Officially Ascends Berekum Stool as Paramount Chief

Odeefuo Kyere Diabour Asante II has officially assumed the Berekum Stool as Paramount Chief after swearing an oath of allegiance to the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

His Majesty accepted his oath of allegiance on June 29, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace during an Asanteman Council meeting.

The crucial exercise gave him the requisite authority to carry himself out as the legitimate ruler of Berekum.

As part of his counselling, Otumfuo had him walk through Berekum’s history.

According to the Asantehene, it was needed to prepare him mentally for the responsibility ahead.

“You need to know the history of Berekum to be able to govern. Berekum is mine, and I commit it to you today,” he said.

Otumfuo used the occasion to rally all kingmakers behind the new chief.

“If you were not successful in pushing your preferred nominee, put everything behind you and support the one we have. Two people cannot occupy a stool at the same time. It is one at a time. If you cannot collaborate with the new chief, you can excuse yourself. He is now Berekumhene, and his position takes precedence over any sub-stool.”

Taking the oath, Odeefuo pledged undivided faithfulness to the King.
