Brussels Airlines Flight Returns Safely to Accra After Technical Fault
A Brussels Airlines flight bound for Lomé returned safely to the Accra International Airport on Monday evening, July 20, 2026, after experiencing a technical fault shortly after take-off.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority said in a press release that Flight SN278 departed Accra at 18:06, but the flight crew elected to return to Accra as a precautionary safety measure. The aircraft landed safely at 18:18.
The GCAA commended the flight crew for adhering to established safety protocols and assured the public that the safety of passengers and crew remains the highest priority.
The technical issue that necessitated the return is currently being investigated by the airline in accordance with established aviation safety procedures and under the oversight of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
As a result of the incident, Brussels Airlines has cancelled Flight SN278. The GCAA said the affected passengers are being accorded the necessary attention by the airline in accordance with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019 Part 2 – Consumer Protection.
The Authority further assured the travelling public that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains robust.
