Otumfuo Appoints Asante Mamponghene to Chair Asanteman Standing Committee
The occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has appointed Dasebre Osei Bonsu III, Asante Mamponghene, as Chairman of the Asanteman Standing Committee, an executive organ of the Council.
His appointment was announced on Monday, June 29, 2026, during an Asanteman Council meeting.
The Committee will be composed of two representatives each from the Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono, and Bono East Regions.
It will also be augmented by two linguists of Otumfuo.
His Majesty charged the chiefs of the various regions to select and present their representatives.
Nananom have until the next Asanteman Council meeting to have their representatives selected.
“The names of the Committee members will be received when we next meet,” he said.
The Committee will be mandated to receive all issues of concern.
Earlier in April, when Otumfuo first shared his plans to reconstitute the body, His Majesty said the move would empower Asanteman to clamp down on insurrections targeting Asante and protect the integrity of all Asante stools.
The Committee will serve as the first line of engagement, receiving all matters of concern and probing them before their referral to the Council when necessary.
