NHIA Does Not Owe Service Providers Beyond 90 Days – Ashanti Regional Director

The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Muniru, has stated that the Authority no longer owes healthcare providers beyond the stipulated 90-day claims payment period.

Speaking with Opemsuo Radio’s Kofi Boakye on Nkwantannso, he explained that significant improvements have been made in the operations and funding of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“By God’s grace, the National Health Insurance Scheme has seen significant improvement. In the past, claims could delay for as long as nine months, leaving healthcare providers and workers under serious financial pressure, but that situation has improved considerably,” he said.

According to him, the NHIA has currently settled claims within the standard 90-day period, provided that healthcare providers have submitted their claims accurately and followed the required procedures.

He noted that delays beyond this period were common in the past, but the Authority has now streamlined its processes to ensure timely payments.

“Apart from the 90 days within which we are supposed to pay, we do not owe anyone,” he stated.

Alhaji Muniru explained that the improved system has helped ease financial pressure on healthcare facilities and workers, allowing them to deliver services more efficiently.

He added that the Authority continues to monitor compliance and ensure that both providers and administrators adhere to the guidelines governing claims submission and payment.
