Ministry of Health Applauds Conviction of Midwife Attacker at Tema Polyclinic

The Ministry of Health has issued a strong endorsement of a court ruling that found a man guilty of assaulting a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic.

In a press release dated June 10, 2026, the Ministry declared its full support for the conviction of Desmond Bosomtwe, who was held accountable for attacking the health worker while on duty.

The court imposed a series of penalties intended to serve as a deterrent. Bosomtwe was ordered to pay a fine of GH¢ 1,200.00, enter into a bond of good behavior, and stay away from the facility. He was also ordered to pay compensation of GH¢ 5,000.00 to the victim.

The Ministry commended the Ghana Police Service for its diligent role in prosecuting the case and ensuring that justice was served.

“Acts of violence against health workers will not be tolerated by the Ministry under any circumstances. This case serves as a clear warning that individuals who engage in such conduct will face the full rigours of the law,” it added.

The Ministry further pledged to continue supporting efforts that uphold professionalism, accountability, and the safety of all health personnel across the country.

Assault

The incident took place on June 2, 2026, at the Community 22 Polyclinic in Tema. Priscilla Addo, a midwife on duty, asked a group of visitors to leave after official visiting hours had ended which is a standard hospital regulation.

Among them was Desmond Bosomtwe, a relative of a patient, who refused to comply. What began as a verbal exchange quickly escalated into a physical assault on the health worker. The attack was captured on video and later spread widely across social media.
