NHIA Disburses GHC256.5m More in Claims
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed an additional GHC256.5 million to healthcare providers, pushing total payments under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for 2026 to GHC1.46 billion.
According to a statement issued by the NHIA on August 6, 2026, the latest payment was made in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026.
It covered claims submitted by credentialed providers for services rendered to NHIS members between January and June 2026.
The disbursement follows an earlier payment of GHC219.8 million on July 1, 2026, for claims up to May, as part of the Authority’s commitment to reimburse providers monthly.
Of the GHC256.5 million, private healthcare providers received GHC113.8 million, representing 44.39%.
Public providers were paid GHC97.3 million, representing 37.95%, while mission facilities received GHC45.3 million, representing 17.66%.
The NHIA said the funds will enable facilities to procure medicines and supplies, sustain essential services, and continue serving members without disruption.
Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, said timely reimbursement is critical to the effective functioning of the NHIS.
“Timely claims payment strengthens the healthcare delivery system, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces public confidence in the NHIS,” Dr Bampoe said.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to processing and paying eligible claims promptly, in support of accessible and affordable healthcare for all NHIS members.
With the latest payment, the NHIA’s total disbursements for 2026 now stand at GHC1.46 billion.
