GACL Sacks 2 Port Health Officers Over Extortion at AIA
Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) says it has taken immediate disciplinary action against airport staff implicated in extortion at Accra International Airport, including the withdrawal of terminal passes for two Port Health officers and the transfer of an Immigration officer.
In a statement dated August 6, 2026, GACL said two Port Health officers working inside Terminal 3 were found to have extorted money from a foreign passport holder for the issuance of a Yellow Fever Card on August 5.
According to GACL, the approved fees are USD20 for foreign passport holders and GHS100 for Ghanaian passport holders.
The officers, however, charged the passenger USD40.
“Immediate action has been taken: Their ID cards to operate in the terminal have been withdrawn and deactivated. As of Thursday, 6th August 2026, the two officers are no longer permitted to work at Accra International Airport or any other GACL-operated airport,” the statement said.
GACL reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on extortion.
“Management reiterates: Everyone is being watched,” the statement noted.
