NHIA Reports Disbursement of GHC1.46 Billion So Far in 2026
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that it has disbursed a total of GHC1.46 billion to healthcare providers nationwide so far in 2026 as part of efforts to ensure the smooth operation of the National Health Insurance Scheme.
In a statement issued on August 6, 2026, the Authority said the latest payment of GHC256.5 million was made in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026.
The funds were to reimburse credentialed healthcare providers for services rendered to NHIS members between January and June this year.
This latest disbursement follows an earlier payment of GHC219.8 million made on July 1, 2026, to settle claims up to May, in line with the Authority’s decision to pay providers on a monthly basis.
Of the GHC256.5 million released, private healthcare providers received GHC113.8 million, public providers received GHC97.3 million, and mission facilities received GHC45.3 million.
The NHIA said the funds are expected to help facilities procure medicines and other essential supplies, sustain service delivery, and ensure that NHIS members continue to access care without disruption.
The Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, said timely reimbursement remains critical to the effective functioning of the scheme.
According to him, prompt payment of claims strengthens the healthcare delivery system, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces public confidence in the NHIS.
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to processing and paying all legitimate claims promptly in support of accessible and affordable healthcare for all members.
