Nurses and Midwives Strike: I’m Open To Discussion For Amicable Solution- Health Minister

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says he is prepared to dialogue and reach an amicable solution with the striking members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The action by the group which gradually withdrew its service across public medical facilities in the country, is beginning to bite.
On Thursday, the Minister visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to assess the impact on healthcare delivery.
Addressing journalists after the inspection, he said the group was exhibiting bad faith.
“Let’s sit around the table and discuss with good faith. We sit around the table, make a decision and we all stand by it. You don’t go and come back to change your position in what we have all agreed. It’s an exhibition of bad faith and that should not be tolerated. I am open at any given time for discussion until we find an amicable solution to this.”
The group has laid down its tools in demand for the full implementation of the 2024 collective agreement.
According to a statement by the Ministry, all Associations in the nursing fraternity presented their cases forcefully in favour of implementing the Collective Agreement at a meeting with the Minister on May 30.
In response, the Minister assured them of his commitment to ensuring that the welfare of nurses and midwives is always prioritised.
He further proposed a three (3) member team with a representation each from the Nurses group, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health to see to the finality of the matter.
All the groups except the GRNMA accepted the proposal and promised to continue with the delivery of service to the General Public.
