New Black Stars Coach Carlos Queiroz: ‘We Can Beat Any Opponent In the World’
The Ghana Football Association has officially unveiled Carlos Queiroz as their new head coach of the Black Stars at a ceremony held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra today.
The 73-year-old takes over from Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties following Ghana’s international outings against Austria and Germany during the March window.
Queiroz arrives with vast experience and is expected to steady the team ahead of crucial international assignments.
In a symbolic cultural gesture, the Ghana Football Association has informally given the Portuguese tactician a local name — Osabarima Carlos Kwesi Queiroz — reflecting his integration into Ghanaian football, although it is not an official designation.
Prior to his unveiling, Queiroz, who was born in Mozambique, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, where he held a brief meeting in the company of GFA President Kurt Okraku.
Addressing the media, the former Real Madrid boss acknowledged the magnitude of the task ahead and expressed readiness to embrace the challenge.
He further stated Ghana has a strong team filled with quality players and will be capable of beating any opponent if they stick together
“If we (Black Stars) play as a team, I have the believe we can beat any opponent in this world.”
Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately as he prepares the team for upcoming international friendlies against Mexico next month and Wales in June.
His immediate focus will also be on shaping a competitive squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
