Ghana’s Envoy in South Africa Urges Restraint Among Ghanaians

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Pretoria, HE Benjamin Quashie, has appealed to Ghanaians living in South Africa to exercise restraint in the face of revived xenophobic attacks.
In a video message, he called for discipline and the preservation of the good image of the West African country.
“The situation is dire, but let’s continue to be law-abiding. Let’s continue to respect the rules and regulations and the rules of engagement as migrants.
“Ghanaians have always been noted as law-abiding and people who don’t foment trouble, so let’s continue to engage with them. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time, and everything will be alright.”
He expressed confidence in an ongoing engagement between Ghana and South Africa’s Foreign Ministers.
High Commissioner made these remarks on Thursday in his office after interacting with Emmanuel Asamoah, a Ghanaian victim whose abuse by some alleged members of Patriotic Alliance featured in a viral video.
“Emma came over today. We’ve had extensive discussions. I have also expressed the goodwill from His Excellency the President and also the Hon Minister to him that we are here to serve him and ensure that we protect the interests of the Ghanaian people.”
The victim confirmed he was in good spirits, allaying all fears.
“I would like to confirm that I am fine. I am the one who was captured in the viral video, but I am not hurt by the Grace of God. I have also interacted with the High Commissioner this morning.”
