Ato Forson Appointed Returning Officer For AfDB Presidential Election

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has landed an appointment as the Returning Officer for the Presidential election of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
As the Returning Officer, he will be responsible for a transparent, credible, and orderly election process in accordance with the Bank’s electoral rules. Particularly, his duties include verifying that the ballot box is empty before each round of voting, confirming the number of ballots cast matches the number of eligible voters, rejecting invalid ballots, and certifying that only valid votes are counted.
In a Facebook post, Cassiel wrote, “I am honoured to have been appointed as the Returning Officer for the presidential elections of the African Development Bank.”
The Ghanaian lawmaker has since committed to delivering on the mandate upholding integrity.
“I will be working closely with the Secretary General, the General Counsel, and a technical team to safeguard the integrity of the vote.”
Five candidates from across Africa are contesting for the Presidency role.
The elections will determine the next President of the AfDB Group, following the conclusion of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s tenure.
