GoldBod Arrests 25 Ghanaians and Foreigners Over Alleged Illegal Gold Trading

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the arrest of 25 Ghanaians and foreigners for alleged illegal gold activities in the country.

They were allegedly involved in illegal gold trading, smelting, and assaying.

Their arrest was effected through the collaboration of the GoldBod Taskforce and National Security operatives.

It explained that two separate operations at Dome Pillar 2 and Akweteyman-Achimota led to the arrests, with over GHS 64,000 and USD 112,500 in cash, several gold bars, and other valuable exhibits retrieved.

“All suspects have been granted police inquiry bail, some suspects have already been arraigned before court, while others remain under investigation.”

At a presser on Monday, the Deputy CEO of the Board, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., reaffirmed its commitment to sanitizing Ghana’s gold trade, warning that all unlicensed gold dealings are prohibited and offenders will face full legal sanctions.
