WAPCo Reaffirms Commitment to Equitable Support Across Its Host Communities

The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to equitable, transparent, and sustained support for all its host communities across Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, following a strategic engagement with community leaders in Benin.
The engagement, held at the Azalaï Hotel in Cotonou on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, brought together 25 representatives from 13 host communities in Benin.
Participants included traditional leaders, youth representatives, and leaders of women’s associations, providing a platform for open dialogue on community concerns and WAPCo’s operations.
The session also marked the announcement of a leadership transition within WAPCo’s Corporate Affairs function, with Dr Isaac Adjei Doku, outgoing GM of Corporate Affairs, introducing Mrs. Angela Yasmin Heymann as the incoming GM of Corporate Affairs.
The WAPCo delegation included Nuna Senaya of the Communications Unit based in Accra, William Osei-Owusu of the External Relations Department also based in Accra, as well as Harold Nounagon Sedolo and Rhetice Gbogblenou, both based at WAPCo’s Benin office.
Dr Doku acknowledged the longstanding, peaceful relationship between WAPCo and its host communities in Benin and emphasised that this partnership reflects WAPCo’s broader approach across all four countries of operation, anchored in fairness, mutual respect, and shared development.
Reiterating the Company’s position, Dr Doku stressed that WAPCo does not favour any community over another.
He noted that all community interventions are guided by defined criteria, operational priorities, and available resources to ensure balanced and equitable support. This aligns with WAPCo’s commitment to fair and inclusive programme implementation across all host communities.
Addressing key concerns, he clarified that some community programmes are temporarily under review to improve impact and delivery and have not been discontinued.
He also stressed that the company’s Livelihood Programme operates on structured and transparent selection criteria to promote fairness and avoid exclusion.
He further underscored that WAPCo operates within defined budgets to ensure sustainability while striving to deliver meaningful and balanced support across its entire host community network.
Importantly, Dr Doku reaffirmed that WAPCo’s community engagement philosophy is consistent across all countries of operation.
“WAPCo remains committed to safe operations, transparent engagement, and equitable partnership with all our host communities.”
Community leaders, in turn, acknowledged WAPCo’s contributions in key areas such as healthcare, sanitation, education, and vocational training, while expressing the need for expanded infrastructure and continued investment.
They reiterated their commitment to sustaining the positive relationship with the company and called for strengthened collaboration going forward.
The engagement served as a reaffirmation of WAPCo’s long-standing approach to community development, which prioritises inclusivity, transparency, and shared value creation across Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.
