Caleb Yirenkyi Ready to Serve Ghana in Any Role Ahead of England Clash

Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has reaffirmed his commitment to the Black Stars, insisting he is willing to play wherever the team needs him as preparations continue for a crucial World Cup showdown against England.

The 24-year-old emerged as Ghana’s hero in their opening Group L match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring the late winner in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama at BMO Field in Toronto.

Yirenkyi’s decisive strike handed the Black Stars all three points and boosted confidence within the camp ahead of their next assignment against England at Gillette Stadium on June 23.

The Three Lions also enjoyed a winning start to the tournament, defeating Croatia 4-2 to set up a high-stakes encounter between the two nations.

With a place in the knockout stage potentially on the line, Yirenkyi has made it clear that his focus remains on contributing to the team’s success rather than his individual role.

“I’m just quite happy to serve my nation anywhere on the field. I don’t really mind. Just do the job,” he said.

The midfielder’s attitude has already endeared him to Ghanaian supporters, with his versatility and work ethic proving valuable to head coach Carlos Queiroz’s plans.

Having delivered when it mattered most against Panama, Yirenkyi will be hoping to play another key role as the Black Stars seek a positive result against England and a place in the next round of the tournament.
