NaCCA Warns Against Use Of Unapproved Learning Materials In Schools

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has cautioned publishers, educational institutions, booksellers, distributors, parents and all stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that only approved learning materials are used in pre-tertiary schools across the country.

In a public notice signed by the Director-General, NaCCA said under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), it remains the sole statutory authority mandated to assess, approve and recommend all pre-tertiary learner materials for use in Ghanaian schools.

Accordingly, the Council stated that all learner materials intended for use in pre-tertiary schools must be assessed and approved by NaCCA before they are published, marketed, distributed or used in any educational institution in Ghana.

It added that every NaCCA-approved learner material must bear the official NaCCA Approval QR Code, which enables users to verify the authenticity and approval status of the material.

NaCCA further advised publishers, schools, booksellers, retailers and the general public to verify that learner materials bear the official NaCCA Approval QR Code before publishing, purchasing, stocking, distributing or using them.

The Council also expressed concern over reports that some publishers are unlawfully using the NaCCA logo on learner materials that have not undergone its assessment and approval processes.

NaCCA described the act as misleading, unauthorised, and a violation of the law.

It has therefore directed all such publishers and persons engaged in the unlawful practice to cease and desist immediately from using the Council’s name, logo, insignia, or any representation suggesting NaCCA approval on unapproved materials.

The Council warned that failure to comply with the directive will result in appropriate regulatory and legal action against defaulting parties.

NaCCA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the quality, integrity and standards of pre-tertiary education in Ghana and urged all stakeholders to support this mandate by ensuring that only duly approved learner materials are procured and used in schools.
