Mahama Proposes Ageing Artist Fund to Cater for the Wellbeing of Retired Stars

President John Dramani Mahama has proposed an Ageing Artist Fund to cater for the country’s celebrities who fall on hard times after retiring.
At an event in Accra on May 1, 2025, he revealed how he had adopted many such people in his capacity as an individual.
“There are many people like that who had talents, performed, we’ve enjoyed their music in many sectors like sports and all the creatives: film, music. Today, we ask ourselves ‘How are their lives?’ Many of them are living as paupers even in old age, money to be able to afford medicines to be able to look after themselves and pay for their hospital bills has become a problem.”
“I’ve done my best from when I was President before and even in opposition and as President again to adopt several of them and provide them with sustenance every quarter in order that they are able to live a meaningful life. That is what I can do as an individual.”
However, he seeks to go further to put in place a national intervention that would cater for such needs as a way of giving back to these individuals who have paid their dues to the country with their crafts and talents.
“I believe that as an institution like we tried to do in the past, we should set up an Ageing Artist Fund and be able to provide something for these people who have made us happy in the past and who we knew were talented and creative and Rae falling on hard times.”
According to him, this Fund will be incorporated into the flagship Black Star Experience.
