Quartey Losses National Featherweight Title To Ashanti Warrior

It was a night of disappointment for some at the SG-Mall in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday but to Stanley Nyantakyi, known as Ashanti Warrior, it was a night of glory and a step to soaring higher towards his dream of becoming a world champion.

The 19-year-old LBO Featherweight Champion added one more title to his record when he faced 34-year-old Emmanuel Quartey in a four-round bout.

The consistent and powerful jabs of Nyantakyi compelled the former national champion to throw in the towel in the course of the fourth round of the bout.

Quartey from the onset seemed the stronger side with a dominating prowess; however, the table suddenly turned in favour of Ashanti Warrior and continued through in the second round.

In the third round, Quartey appeared to have bounced stronger but eventually succumbed to the punches of the teenager and finally threw in the towel a few seconds into the fourth round, giving up on his national title.

Expressing his profound appreciation to his fans, Nyantakyi remarked, “It is a great honour to me that as an Asante I have won a prestigious National title.”

Admitting to the rich experience Quartey carries, he indicated that he was in his season while his opponent was out of season.

“He is an experienced boxer but this is my era. His days are over.”

The trainee of Osibor Boxing Management and Promotions is now eyeing continental titles.

He disclosed, “I now look forward to WBO or IBF Africa and after that, I set into world stage titles.”

Meanwhile, he said he is prepared for anyone who may want to challenge his titles.
