KMA Takes Precautionary Steps To Curb Flooding

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, and assembly officials have taken precautionary steps to curb flooding in Kumasi by inspecting flood-prone areas and ordering immediate desilting of choked drains.

As part of efforts to curb flooding in the city, the Mayor led a team of assembly officials and members on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, to visit areas that require urgent attention from city authorities.

The Asafo Market and the WAEC drainage area were the areas visited during the inspection.

Drainages requiring immediate desilting were identified, and the Mayor instructed officials of the Assembly to act quickly and with precision to clear them ahead of heavy rains.

KMA said the exercise forms part of its broader measures to reduce the impact of flooding on residents and businesses in the metropolis.

The Assembly is also urging residents and traders to stop dumping refuse in drains, which remains a major cause of blockages in the city.
