Interior Ministry to Pay Citizens for Illicit Gun Tipoffs

The government has announced plans to activate an informant reward system to encourage citizens to provide credible information on illegal firearms.

Speaking at a press conference, Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak said the informant reward system is part of the government’s comprehensive response to curb the proliferation of illicit arms.

This initiative comes as the temporary window of grace is now closed, with the country transitioning to full, robust enforcement of firearms laws.

The Minister said security agencies will intensify intelligence-led operations, searches, swoops, and surveillance of criminal networks.

“All illicit firearms will be confiscated, and offenders will face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.”

The government is also strengthening border control to combat the trafficking of illegal weapons.

Mubarak urged all citizens to remain law-abiding and support security agencies with credible information.

“Sustaining this programme demands continuous vigilance and collective action. Reject silence in the face of illegality,” he said.

“Peace is not merely the absence of conflict. It is the presence of safety, trust and respect for human life,” the Minister added.
