Interior Minister Receives Illegal Firearms Seized by NAIMOS

The first batch of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat, NAIMOS, has presented several illegal firearms seized during anti-galamsey operations to the Ministry of the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced.
In a Facebook post, Muntaka Mubarak said he received the weapons from the NAIMOS team and subsequently handed them over to the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The Commission will handle proper documentation, marking, and destruction of the firearms in accordance with Ghanaian law.
The Minister commended the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the NAIMOS personnel for their dedication and commitment to the fight against illegal mining. He described their work as critical to curbing the armed threat that often accompanies galamsey operations.
Muntaka assured the public that all equipment and items seized during anti-galamsey operations, particularly excavators, will be dealt with transparently and in line with established legal procedures.
He said details of such seizures and subsequent actions will be made public through appropriate channels to ensure accountability.
The Interior Minister also called on Ghanaians, especially communities affected by illegal mining, to continue supporting the government and NAIMOS in the fight against galamsey.
He warned that illegal mining poses a serious threat to the environment, water bodies, farmlands, and the health and livelihoods of citizens.
To the newly deployed batch of NAIMOS personnel, Muntaka urged them to carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity, and dedication.
He said that by remaining focused on their mandate and earning public trust, they will contribute significantly to protecting Ghana’s natural resources for future generations.
“Together, we can win the fight against illegal mining and safeguard Ghana’s environment for future generations,” he stated.
