I Sacrificed My Political Ambition for My Husband – Wife of Sammi Awuku

Mary Anane Awuku, wife of Hon. Sammi Awuku, Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has revealed that she once sacrificed her own political dreams to allow her husband to climb the political ladder.

In an interview, Mary revealed she was actively involved in student politics at the University of Ghana, where she met her husband.

As a student politician, she served as both SRC and JCR president.

“I’ve always been in student politics – SRC and JCR president – and I never wanted to stop because I love to impact lives,” she said.

However, after their relationship grew, the couple held a crunch discussion about their future, they agreed that one of them would have to step back.

“We had a discussion on who should resign as a politician, and I was supposed to resign,” Mary explained.

Following this, she pursued a business career which she says she genuinely loves.

“I love where I am now. I love the business,” she stated, adding that she does not regret the decision. “All prayers are with him as he moved up the political ladder.”

The couple, who met on campus years ago, are now married with four children.
