Otumfuo Now an Honorary Member of Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce
The Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce has inducted the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as an honorary member.
A certificate was presented to His Majesty on August 7, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi by the President of the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Linda Vasnani, and the Chief Executive Officer, Edwina Atta.
This, the President said, was part of the Chamber’s plans to expand to Kumasi.
The idea, she said, was inspired by a call by the Asantehene during one of his addresses at the Ghana-Canada Investment Forum 2026 in June.
“His Majesty made a statement at our business breakfast. He said that leadership must create opportunities for others to benefit, and as a chamber we seek to expand our operations to Kumasi. As a result of that, we want to make His Majesty an honorary member of our chamber. We have a certificate here.”
The Chief Executive Officer also presented a commemorative book featuring photographs of the Asantehene’s activities in Canada.
“The Chamber and Otumfuo visited some places and engaged in various activities in Canada. We want to immortalise this visit, so we have documented it… We brought a copy of it to Nana and also another copy for his autograph, which will be kept at our head office.”
In further remarks, Linda expressed appreciation to the Asantehene for honouring their event.
She remarked that the King’s participation bridged the gap between commerce and culture, turning a regular business event into a showcase of national heritage.
“On behalf of the High Commissioner of Canada to Ghana and the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, we want to express our gratitude to Otumfuo for his presence at the Beyond the World Cup event.
“His presence elevated the whole programme from just being a business conference to a programme that showcased Ghanaian heritage. It built a very strong bridge between Canada and Ghana. We are here to thank His Majesty for his presence.”
Welcoming the leadership, Otumfuo stated that job creation was central to the trip he took about two months ago.
“We do all these for Ghana in order that the teeming youth will get jobs. We went only to secure jobs for Ghanaians, and we are optimistic that the relations between Ghana and Canada will be strengthened so that industries will be set up and jobs will be created.”
The Asantehene also encouraged the Chamber to keep up the good work.
“Pursue your vision. Ghana needs investors so that we can create jobs.”
