PAC Questions GHC35.8 m Police Expenditure for 13th African Games

The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has questioned a GHC35.8 million expenditure claim submitted by the Ghana Police Service for deployment services during the 13th African Games.
The issue came up during the committee’s zonal public hearing in Ada as part of its review of the Auditor-General’s report on outstanding government claims as of December 31, 2024.
The Committee raised concerns over expenditure claims linked to the 13th African Games held in 2024, after officials told the committee that key supporting documents were either missing or disputed.
At the centre of the controversy is a GHC35.8 million claim submitted by the Ghana Police Service for deployment services during the Games.
Officials of the sector told the committee that the claim was challenged because the required documentation, including deployment registers and other verification records, was not provided.
The Ministry of Sports also questioned the legitimacy of the expenditure and said payment had been withheld pending further clarification.
Officials further raised concerns over the timing of the claim, noting that it surfaced after earlier agreements on security arrangements had reportedly been disputed.
The committee said it would pursue the matter to ensure accountability and proper documentation for all public expenditure related to the Games.
