Seal Revenue Drains to Secure Gains- Otumfuo Charges GRA

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has warned that ongoing strides in national revenue mobilisation will be severely undermined unless the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) aggressively seals persistent leakages within its collection systems.

Addressing members of the GRA Board and senior management at the Manhyia Palace on August 7, 2026, the Asante Monarch commended the GRA for gains made so far under the leadership of the Commissioner-General of GRA, Anthony Sarpong.

His Majesty stated that while recent operational improvements are commendable, systemic weaknesses continue to drain the public purse.

The King stressed that pluggable administrative loopholes, deliberate under-reporting of income by commercial entities, and operational inefficiencies in the field continue to bleed the state of vital resources required for socio-economic development.

“If your officers decide to cancel tax debt for their personal gain, that goes against the state. If we don’t want to go for loans, then we need to mobilise revenue locally, and that will spur development.”

To safeguard the nation’s financial integrity, Otumfuo urged the GRA’s leadership to match their expanded collection drives with equally aggressive internal audits and anti-leakage measures.

The Asantehene noted that closing these gaps is essential if Ghana is to build a resilient, self-reliant economy capable of funding its own development without relying heavily on external borrowing.
