Fisheries and Energy Ministries Partner to Modernise Ghana’s Fishing Sector

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition are set to roll out joint interventions to modernise Ghana’s fishing sector and promote the use of cleaner energy.

This follows a working visit this week by the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

The meeting focused on practical strategies to improve the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of fishing activities across the country.

Key areas of discussion included improving access to and the supply of premix fuel for fisherfolk, and promoting the adoption of cleaner and more efficient technologies in the sector.

Speaking on the collaboration, Hon. Dr John Abdulai Jinapor noted that it forms part of the government’s broader efforts to transition to environmentally sustainable energy solutions.

He said the goal is to enhance productivity in the fisheries sector while contributing to the protection of Ghana’s marine resources.

For her part, Hon. Emelia Arthur underscored the need for reliable energy inputs to reduce operational costs for fishermen and boost the long-term viability of coastal communities.
