Integrity and Discipline Key to Expanding Tax Net- Otumfuo to GRA

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stated that expanding the tax net will mean nothing without integrity and discipline among the officers of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the GRA Board, Commissioners and senior management at the Manhyia Palace on August 7, 2026, His Majesty said transparency and accountability must be the foundation of all revenue collection efforts.
“Expanding the tax net would yield little result if field officers and revenue officials do not exercise transparency and accountability in their operations,” Otumfuo stated.
The King urged the Authority to enforce strict internal discipline, warning that corrupt practices and official dishonesty were eroding public trust and denying the state funds needed for development.
“If your officers decide to cancel tax debt for their personal gain, that goes against the state. If we don’t want to go for loans, then we need to mobilise revenue locally, and that will spur development,” he said.
Otumfuo noted that integrity would bring honour not only to the GRA as an institution but also to the individual officers who serve it.
“Your names will be on record as the staff or officials within whose tenure the Authority amassed such historic revenue,” he added.
The GRA delegation was led by Board Chairman George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan and Commissioner-General Anthony Sarpong.
