U/WR: Two Notorious Thieves Jailed 22 Years

The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured custodial sentences totaling 22 years against two individuals convicted in separate stealing-related cases, as part of efforts to curb crime in the region.

In a press release dated August 6, 2026, signed by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the Command said the sentences were handed down by the Wa Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Samuel Boafo Amewuho.

According to the release, 20-year-old Nasiru Muftawu was arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following intelligence-led investigations into a series of motorbike thefts in various parts of the region. He was charged, tried, and on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, convicted and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour.

In a separate case, 36-year-old Eric Salia was arrested on Sunday, July 26, 2026, for unlawfully breaking into the residential accommodation of a public officer and stealing valuable personal belongings. He was also charged, tried, and convicted by the same court and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour.

The Command reiterated its commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for all law-abiding residents of the Upper West Region and assured the public that it will continue to pursue criminals relentlessly and bring offenders to justice.

DCOP Yiribaare further urged members of the public to support policing efforts by providing timely and credible information on criminal activities, noting that public cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and enhancing community safety and security across the region.
