Education Ministry Tracking People Claiming School Placement Extortion

The Ministry of Education says it has collaborated with relevant state agencies to track down people claiming extortion in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Computerised School Placement.
Once found, these persons who propagate their claims using social media will assist in investigations.
It comes after the Ministry took notice of various claims of officials demanding money to place BECE candidates in their preferred choice of school.
One of such cases, attributed to one Gertrude Adzo Borklo, alleges that placement into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School costs “GHC1 5,000.”
“The Ministry views this allegation with the utmost seriousness and has initiated an immediate investigation into the matter. However, attempts to reach the author of the original post have proven unsuccessful, as her account messenger was deactivated shortly after the publication.”
The Ministry observes that these claims feed into a conspiratorial narrative to create the false impression that the placement exercise is done at a charge.
It has since launched a clampdown on the act.
“In response, the Ministry is collaborating closely with National Security, the Cyber Security Authority, and other agencies to track down these people to assist in investigating this matter.”
Meanwhile, it affirmed that the placement exercise is free of charge and encouraged members of the public to provide any information or evidence of persons, whether Ministry officials or third parties, who demand money for placements.
“The Ministry assures swift and decisive action against any individual found culpable.”
