GTEC Flags Unaccredited University Centres And 36 Institutions With Expired Accreditation

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned prospective students and the general public against enrolling in several unaccredited learning centres of public universities and 36 tertiary institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired.
In a public notice dated July 8, 2026, GTEC said the move is to safeguard the public, prevent misinformation, and protect individuals from potential exploitation.
According to the Commission, several learning centres of public universities have not been accredited.
These include seven University of Ghana Learning Centres located in Koforidua, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ho/Tsito, Wa, Bolgatanga and Sunyani. Also listed are the University of Education, Winneba, and Learning Centres operating at Jayee University College in Accra and at St. Theresa’s College in Anaji-Takoradi.
The University for Development Studies Learning Centres at Wa and Chereponi, the Akatakyi and Butumagyebi Campuses of Takoradi Technical University, and the Tema and Wenchi Campuses of Methodist University Ghana were also named.
GTEC further indicated that the institutional accreditation of 36 institutions has expired. The list includes Abbeam Institute of Technology in Kasoa, SS Peter and Paul Pastoral and Social Institute in Wa, Community College in Takoradi, Mumford Institute of Technology and Lakeside University College, both in Accra.
Other institutions are ILMA Institute of Science and Technology, River View College, Synergies Institute, Institute of Local Government Studies, Ohawu College of Agriculture, College of Tropical Agriculture at Domeabra, and Animal Health and Production College in Tamale.
The list also covers Kwadaso Agricultural College in Kumasi, Hopkins Health Training Institute in Akim Oda, Manaata School of Midwifery, Western Hills School of Nursing, Oak City International College, Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Asankrangwa, Holy Spirit College of Education in Ho, Islamic Nursing Training School at Kokrobite, and Springs College at Labone-Accra.
Also mentioned are Wintech Professional Institute, Trans Africa College, Institute of Business Management and Journalism in Kumasi, Rural Development College at Kwawu, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies at Bunso, School of Anaesthesia in Kumasi, Unique Citizens College, Kings and Queens Medical College at Akosombo, and Royal Nursing College in Kumasi.
The Commission added Zenith University College, Institute of Development and Technology Management in Cape Coast, Jayee University College, Modal College in Sogakope, Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Cape Coast, and Archbishop Porter Girls’ Polytechnic in Elmina.
GTEC strongly advised prospective students, parents, guardians, and the general public to verify the accreditation status of all institutions, learning centres, and academic programmes directly with the Commission before applying for admission.
The Commission warned that enrolling in unaccredited institutions or learning centres poses significant risks, including the possible loss of time, financial resources, and future career opportunities.
