GSA and ILO Partner to Launch Social Compliance Framework for Garment and Textile Sector

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) are partnering to strengthen labour practices in Ghana’s garment and textiles industry with the introduction of a new Social Compliance Framework.

The Director-General of the GSA, Prof. George Agyei, together with senior officials of the Authority, hosted Mr Aymen Chahloul, a Technical Officer at the Ghana Office of the ILO, at the GSA head office in Accra.

The meeting was convened to formally introduce the Social Compliance Framework.

The programme is designed to support garment and textiles enterprises in Ghana to assess their social compliance practices, identify risks and gaps, and develop practical Enterprise Improvement Plans.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Agyei reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting initiatives that safeguard workers’ rights and improve workplace standards across industries.

He pledged the GSA’s full support for the programme and noted that the framework aligns with the Authority’s mandate to promote quality, safety, and ethical practices in Ghanaian businesses.

Mr Chahloul, on his part, highlighted the ILO’s commitment to working with national institutions to promote decent work and sustainable enterprise development.

He said the framework will provide companies with practical tools to meet both local and international labour standards, thereby enhancing competitiveness and access to global markets.

The Social Compliance Framework is expected to benefit small, medium, and large garment and textile enterprises by helping them build safer workplaces, ensure fair labour practices, and meet buyer requirements.

Both institutions agreed to roll out sensitisation and capacity-building sessions for industry players in the coming months.
