Gov’t to Restructure BECE Timetable for Exam to Run Wednesday to Wednesday

The Government is reviewing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) calendar to ease pressure on candidates, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced.
Speaking on the current exam schedule, Mr Iddrisu observed that the Monday-to-Friday timetable put many learners under stress due to the compressed workload.
“I understand that the schedule of the exam for BECE was just Monday to Friday, and that put many of you under stress. Accordingly, the government is reviewing the BECE exam calendar,” the Minister stated during a tour in selected high schools ahead of the English Language WASSCE paper.
Under the new arrangement, the BECE will now begin on a Wednesday and end the following Wednesday.
The Minister explained that both the first and last papers will be core subjects, with the weekend in between giving students time to prepare for the expanded workload.
“When they start with the core subject on Wednesday, they end with a core subject on the next Wednesday so that they have the weekend to prepare for the expanded workload,” he said.
Mr Iddrisu said Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, will ensure full implementation of the revised calendar across the country.
