Gov’t to Upgrade 50 SHSs with $300m- Education Minister

The Ministry of Education says it will upgrade 50 senior high schools nationwide under a $300 million infrastructure expansion programme aimed at improving access to quality education.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced that 30 Category C schools will be converted to Category B, while 20 Category B schools will be upgraded to Category A status.

“We intend to convert 30 Category C schools to B and 20 Category B schools to A with US$300 million for expanded infrastructure across the country,” Mr Iddrisu stated.

The Minister also disclosed that the government will make special provision for existing Category A schools to benefit from additional infrastructure under the same intervention.

The upgrades are expected to expand classrooms, dormitories, laboratories, and other facilities, helping to reduce pressure on top-tier schools and improve learning conditions in lower-category schools.

The $300 million facility is expected to support the government’s broader effort to close infrastructure gaps and ensure more equitable access to quality SHS education across all regions.
