GoldBod Denies GHC200 Million Theft

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod),has dismissed as false a widely circulated social media news card alleging that the proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures absconded with GHC200 million belonging to the Board.

The social media card purported that Mr Dominic Bonsu, described as a former bodyguard to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, had fled with the funds.

In a statement, GoldBod said the publication is “entirely false, malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public.”

The Board stated unequivocally that Mr Dominic Bonsu has never, at any point, served as a bodyguard or personal security officer to the Chief Executive Officer.

It further clarified that GoldBod has not lost and has not advanced GHC200 million, or any amount of money, to Mr Dominic Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures.

According to GoldBod, the facts are that Dominic Bonsu Ventures’ licence was suspended by the Board for suspected breaches of the terms and conditions of its licence, as well as the GoldBod Trading Directives, in accordance with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

Following investigations and enforcement action, Mr Dominic Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court, Accra, where he remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings.

GoldBod expressed deep concern over what it described as the deliberate publication of falsehoods designed to distort an ongoing enforcement action, misinform the public and undermine confidence in its operations.

The Board has therefore urged the public to disregard the fabricated claims and rely solely on information issued through GoldBod’s official communication channels.

GoldBod also called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and to exercise the highest standards of responsible journalism.
