Ghana’s A-G to Meet US Department of Justice Boss over Pending Extradition Requests

Ghana’s Attorney-General is set to meet his counterpart at the United States Department of Justice for bilateral talks on all pending extradition requests between the two countries, including the high-profile case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu disclosed the planned meeting as former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe Attionu arrived in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, to begin a 10-year jail term.

He said the discussions will focus on clearing the backlog of outstanding extradition requests and strengthening cross-border criminal justice cooperation.

Tamakloe Attionu’s surrender followed a two-year legal process.

The High Court convicted and sentenced her in absentia in April 2024 on more than 70 corruption-related charges linked to her tenure at MASLOC.

Ghana submitted an extradition request to the US in July 2024, and American authorities notified Accra of her surrender in January this year.

Ghana Police and Prisons officials took her into custody on arrival to begin her sentence for embezzling over $6 million in taxpayer funds.

The US Embassy in Ghana announced the extradition, calling it “justice with no borders” and the first such surrender from America to Ghana since 2009. Embassy officials said the action demonstrates a strong U.S.-Ghana law enforcement partnership and a shared commitment to accountability.
